On a network, each computer has a unique identifier. When the computer is connected to the internet, there is an exclusive private id assigned to the computer which needs to stay safe and stabilized using Router Login. The TCP/IP portal is used as a standard for communication in the network. In this TCP/IP portal, the unique identifier for every computer is called an IP address.
There are two versions of IP address:
IP Version 4 (IPv4).
IP Version 6 (IPv6).
Most computers use the IPv4, but now a day’s IPv6 version is being used.
IP ( Internet Portal ) address is an address of network hardware. It helps in communication between computers in a network when connected to the internet. It helps in connecting your device to other devices on the web all over the world. An IP address consists of numbers and characters.
507.435.234.123 – This is an example of an IP address.
Types Of IP Address
1. Public IP address – It is an external IP address assigned to a computer. It is responsible for communication between various devices. It changes every time you connect to a network.
2. Private IP address – This is an IP address used to connect to your device to one another in a private network, for example- A printer connected to your computer. Each computer on a private network is assigned its IP address.
3. Local IP address– The local IP address is used to connect devices in a private network. The router assigns a local IP address to each device using the DHCP server.
4. Dynamic IP address– This is a temporary IP address shared with external networks. It is generated by a DHCP server. It is established when the device is connected to the system.
5. Static IP address– These addresses are manually set in the network. It is also called a fixed IP address or a dedicated IP address. It is less common than a dynamic IP address.
Reset IP Address
There is an IP address associated with each device. On a local area network, each device is assigned a private address. This address is unique. It is attached to the device when it is connected to the system by DHCP(Dynamic Host Configuration Portal)server, which is in the router. For each method, the address is leased for some time. After resetting your IP address, you might not get a new address as the lease on the address is not expired.
Top ways to reset your IP address are:
Go Somewhere Else
This is the simplest way to change your IP address. In this, you must switch to a different network. If using Wifi can turn off Wifi and connect to the mobile web. This will change the IP address as the IP address is changed every time you connect to the system.
Using Command Prompt
In this method, the IP address is changed using the computer prompt. It first releases the current IP address through some commands. It then requests a new IP address.
- Click on Start and type command prompt
- Open the command prompt
- Type ipconfig/release in command prompt and press Enter. (This will remove your current address)
- Type ipconfig/renew in command prompt and press Enter. (This will request a new private IP address)
- Exit command prompt by typing exit on command prompt
Reset New Adapter
- Right-click the Network icon on the taskbar
- Select Open Network and sharing center
- Select the change adapter setting link from the list of options on the left side of the screen
- Right, click the Network adapter you are choosing and select diagnosis
- Windows will reset your adapter by requesting a new one
Power Cycling Process
This is the simplest method to reset your private IP address. In this, you have to reset your router or modem. The steps are,
- Switch off your router or modem
- Wait for ten minutes
- Turn it back on
- If it does not turn off-take of the batteries entirely
- The public and private IP addresses will be reset as per the lease time
Disabling And Re-enabling Network Connection
This will reset the IP address as a new IP address is generated every time you connect to a network. By disabling and then enabling the network connection, it will change the IP address.
The steps to so are:
- Click on start and search run
- Select run
- Type ncpa.cpl and click ok
- Right-click on the network adapter and click on disable
- Right-click and choose enable
Use A Proxy Server
Change the proxy setting in a web browser setting so that it automatically configures. The web proxy (HTTP) setting is suitable for basic web browsing, though you might need a more specific setting depending on your needs.
